The Research School for Human-Machine Interaction (HMI) was founded in
1996 with support from The Foundation of Strategic Research (SSF). HMI
consists of two centers in Stockholm and Linköping, with the goal
to improve Swedish competence by educating specialists in HMI, and bringing
HMI research in Sweden to a high international level.
High-quality HMI is of prime importance for a successful competition
in a global market for IT products and Real-Time Systems. HMI knowledge
has world-wide become a strategic investment both for large industries
and SME's. In order to maintain a high level of usable IT-based consumer
products and industrial systems Swedish industry has to increase its frontline
knowledge of computer-based artefacts and media from a human perspective,
building on insights in computer science, usability and user-oriented
design, as well as the aesthetic arts.
The research school arranges regular workshops for the doctoral students,
scholars and industry. We are now happy to invite all interested parties
to this year's Spring Symposium, devoted to a summary of the state of
the art in the area of Human-Machine Interaction and to a review of challenges
for the future.
